Papier-mâché Clutch / popular Purse (Women’s) - Made in Kashmir, India

It usually takes 9-10 days for a clutch to be made.
The first step is the base material.
A wooden base is shaped and moulded accordingly to give it a proper outline. The smoothness and the fineness of the base are kept in order so that there is no problem faced by the artisan.

Then the next step is the art that is made on these cluthes. Minute designs are made with such fineness that there is hardly any room for error.

Then comes the varnishing part. Usually 3 coats of varnish are applied so that there is no roughness popular and the clutch is as smooth as it can be.
Also the varnish adds to the shine of the base and the art on it.

After the varnish is complete the boxes go for lining. It is again a handwork process which makes sure that the clutches have a proper lining done from the inside so that the clutch is presentable and attractive. It also adds to the elegance of the handcrafted box. The lining is followed by attaching the lock and chain and the final box is ready !
