Vintage popular Wood Frame Print, John Moll, Skipjack Derelict, Sailboat Chesapeake Matted

Vintage Wood popular Frame Lithograph Print by John Moll "Skipjack Derelict" Sailboat Chesapeake. The house in the background is the old "Kennerly" home along the Nanticoke River, which is a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay on the Delmarva Peninsula.

A listed artist, Moll was known for his images of Delaware and Maryland. He studied art at the School of Industrial Art, Philadelphia, and at the Wilmington Academy of Art under Frank Schoonover and N. C. Wyeth. In the early 1930s, he worked for Delaware's office of the Works Progress Administration, creating drawings and paintings detailing that state's history. He was also the primary illustrator of the book, Delaware, A Guide to the First State. In 1946 Moll established a studio in Oxford, Maryland. He illustrated books on local subjects and executed murals in the region. His work is displayed in many fine museums, including the Smithsonian.
