WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU USE ?

Japanese porcelain and ceramics sourced from an Australian wholesaler. Our supplier works directly with family owned kilns in central Japan where the clay is found. These families have made household items for generations mainly from Central Japan, as this is where the clay is from. The tableware they source is seldom seen outside of this area and is often only used in restaurants and homes in the areas around the makers' kilns.

Due to its handcrafted nature there are variances in the glaze and finish. The picture you see in the gallery, is the actual piece you will receive. I do not mass produce Kintsugi pieces.

WHAT IS THE KINTSUGI PROCESS:

I currently use the latest in preservation and restoration techniques due to 7 years of traditional restoration experience. Be reassured this piece is built to last and will not deteriorate or change colour over the years. We use a combination of conservation and restoration products. The gold effect is achieved via a combination of pigments and mediums. These will not change colour over time as they contain no copper or irons.

WHY DO YOU NOT OFFER A TRADITIONAL METHOD OF KINTSUGI?

Traditional Kintsugi uses a lacquer made from a plant in the poison Ivy family. I am allergic to poison Ivy and most modern Kintsugi is made using an Epoxy. In inexperienced hands this will change colour if it is untreated and discolour your piece. I do not use real gold because of the cost. If I did this piece would be $400-$600 more.

AFTER CARE:

DO NOT USE FOR FOOD
DO NOT wash with water
Use a DRY CLOTH to dust and clean your piece.

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken items and highlighting the repairs in gold. Recognising that it is the flaws and “scars” that make you stronger, beautiful and unique popular. This is used as a metaphor to describe ourselves. The new you will be better, bolder and brighter than you were before. There is no need to hide the extraordinary person you truly are.

I hope the repaired Kintsugi piece you have received resonates with you and reflects the strength and beauty you possess.
