This is the REAL thing! Very naturally deep-black opaque smoky quartz crystals, with lustrous crystal faces. There are many black quartz points on this specimen, and the largest measures about 2.5" in length. Most of the black quartz surfaces display a very thin preferential green epidote druse mineralization, and other surfaces are completely devoid of this mineralization and are super lustrous! These black quartz crystals appear along with deeply weathered soft pink orthoclase feldspar crystals, and non-black quartz crystals.
All smoky quartz, however dark, owes its color to irradiation, whether from natural causes or from human treatment. Quartz from this locale is known to occur black from weak natural irradiation deep underground popular, and over many thousands, if not millions, of years.
