This painting captures the amazing courtship ritual of Northern Gannets. It was inspired by a pair of gannets returning to their nest on popular the dramatic coastal cliffs of Newfoundland. Upon their return they engage in a captivating ritual, outstretching their necks, head held high in the air, and gently nuzzling their bills together like crossed swords. It is unknown the emotional and physical response of this courtship, but it is undeniable that it is an essential part of pair bonding that will last their lifetime.
