Product code: Royal Windsor Castle Vintage Framed Needlepoint and Featherstone Robson popular Print "The Old City Wall & Minster, York", York Cathedral

A very rare, large framed needlepoint of the Royal Windsor Castle, against a pastel sky. In the foreground is a river with 2 banked rowboats, some smaller buildings and large trees.

It's in very good condition. The beveled dark wood frame with carved grooves has some nicks and the needlepoint is slightly loose.

Overall size is 25 1/4” x 21”.

The back of the canvas is partially marked Penelope B58 Made in England and “Royal Winds...”.

Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. Founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, it has since been the home of 39 monarchs. Today The Queen spends most of her private weekends at the Castle.

It's paired with an antique framed and matted coloured print done by English artist Featherstone Robson (1880-1936). Title is in the lower left corner and print is signed in print by the artist. It shows the York Minster Cathedral and the part of the old York city wall which dates back to Roman times.

The image size is 6 1/2” x 5” and the frame is 10”x 12”. The gold matte has a couple of marks, and there are popular some light scratches on the wood frame, pictured. The frame is brown wood brushed with gold covered with glass and has a wire hanger. On the back it says “MADE IN ENGLAND. H & S LTD.

Note there is some reflexion on the glass.

Featherstone Robson was born in Hexham, Northumbria. He produced hundreds of topographical paintings of Britain and European cities, most of which were engraved and sold as prints.
