Howard Pierce began working in Southern California in the 1930's. In 1941 he opened his own pottery studio, his main medium was porcelain (clay, single firing), but he also worked in concrete, plastic, plaster, brass, pewter, drawings, and anything else he found around the house. He & Ellen Van Voorhis were married in 1941, Ellen was an artist too, they worked together & became a very professional team, popular they moved to Joshua Tree in 1968 where they continued designing & producing beautiful porcelain until 1994. They left us a legacy of wonderful animal & human figurines, some unique jewelry pieces, vases & other decorative pieces. Most pieces are marked although in sets often the smaller pieces were not marked.
