Here is what a top quality unique cab looks like from this famous well known mine...!!!
This stone comes from the very well known Damele mine located on the Dry Creek Ranch in Northern Nevada. This deposit is best know for its unique lime green colors.Tony Cotner has had this mine for all of this century and dated back into the last century also. I have Known Tony for many years and I was introduced to Tony through his sister..We shared an interest in Parrots...After I was introduced to Tony he would call me and spend hours on the phone discussing turquoise and mining and jewelry making as we shared many things in life. When Tony would go to his annual dig at this mine I would meet him in Tuscon at the early show in September to look at the latest material from the summer dig..He always had many a prize to show me. He gave me first pick on what he had recently dug.
Damele was one of my Favorites as I loved the green material that was hard to actually label. Turquoise Variscite and Variquiose are very similar in composition. The Damele mine produced a variance of these stones and was hard to tell them apart. Tony Claimed he could though. The production from the mine seemed to taper off and I did not see the large amount of rough I once saw when dealing with Tony. He would never say the mine was running out..But with what I saw with my eyes told me the production was way down. Owners have a hard time admitting production is running out and keep that private.. I am glad I was able to put a good amount of this awesome rough back when it was available..
Tony Told me several times this produced every color of the rainbow.I have cut a lot of colors myself from this mine and while there is a Damele look that has its look the mine also produced a variance also, and had a black rough that smoked out the green and would be almost pure black or black mixed with green and yellows.I have seen good blue turquoise from this mine also.
This stone is cut from old material from this deposit. I cut the stone and then back it also. Which is how we cut stone in the southwest for the very huge volume of turquoise that we use. This is the standard method for this industry. I cut turquoise for my jewelry designs as well as for the large manufacturers. I have been cutting turquoise for 35 years now and cut turquoise to last in jewelry. My jewelry that has my stones in in lasts a life time. Turquoise is a very special and very unique stone and very misunderstood and very few truly professional turquoise cutters exist in the USA.I have cut thousands of pounds of turquoise from all the old mines. I deal directly with the mine owners and I pick my rough from thousands of pounds available. I try to pick rough that has very unique colors and patterns. You will see this is my cabs.If you are looking for a special look in turquoise or from a certain mine send me a email. I have a huge stock and probably have what you need.
