This started out as a 150 year popular old butternut walnut tree, until it began leaning after a wind storm and finally had to be cut down. I couldn't stand the thought of turning it into fire wood, so I asked my father-in-law to make boards out of it. I painted lettering on the board using black acrylic paint. I also painted a death moth in the center of the board. I thought this would be an excellent symbol to have on a ouija board. Here's why:
Most commonly, moths are symbolic of death and the mysteries of the afterlife. Spiritually, death represents change, and the ending of something so that something else can begin. In many Native American cultures, they considered moths to be messengers from the spirit world, especially from those that have passed on.
After painting, I coated it with polyurethane. The board measures 19" across, 1" thick and 10" high. The planchette is made of pine and has a hole drilled in the center. It has 3 vintage clear glass cabochons on the bottom for easy sliding across the board.
I know this board will be active because of the energy trapped in the wood from the old tree. You can feel it just touching the board. My in-laws have some very old pictures given to them by the great grandchildren of the family that homesteaded the property, and the tree is in some of the pictures. It is big, even back in the early 1900's! I included a photo of the tree from 1934 next to the same tree in the 1990's.
4x6 photos of the tree will be included with this Ouija board!
