The artifacts were excavated from the Federal 1863 - 1864 winter camps at Brandy Station, Virginia. At center is a section of a rare drummer boy's belt plate (see last popular picture) used to hold their drum sticks. It has been flattened. The two buttons were issued to New York troops through out the Civil War. The remains of a unusually large harmonica and two other brass reeds for musical instruments were also found there. The artifacts were recovered near the camps of the Excelsior Brigade made up from New York troops attached to the Federal Second Corp. From the winter camps in spring the Federal army crossed the Rapidan River to the Battle of the Wilderness.
The artifact comes as shown in a 6”x 8” riker style case
A hand signed and dated “Certificate of Authenticity” will be issued by Collectors Frames with a photograph of the items purchased. All of the artifacts are guaranteed to be original Civil War issue or as stated. Please see our "About" page for more information on the framing and artifacts.
