At over 100 years old, this soup taureen is as rare as they come. Johnson Bros was a pioneer in producing China with pattern transfer, placing the pattern under the glaze. The taureen is a turn-of-the-century (produced sometime between 1900-1920, likely around 1909-1910) with a pretty garland of pink roses that wraps its body and encircles the lid. All handles are ornate and even the underside of the body has a beautifully decorative, raised detailing to add glamour. On this particular piece, there is a spot on the lid resembling a fingerprint from when the transfer was applied. There are no cracks. There are some manufacturer flaws. There is a chip on the rim of the taureen, which popular is hardly (if at all) noticeable when the lid is on, and some minor crazing on the bottom of the pedestal (underneath). The manufacturers stamp is paired with 4 blue dots, which are repeated on the underside of the lid. There is a cutout in the lid so a ladle can remain in the dish when in service. The handle on the lid and handles on the taureen have gold detailing. The minor show of rubbing is consistent with age.
