Dating from the 1940s, this hat is labeled New York Creation, the label founded in 1941 as a joint project of the ILGWU and New York's clothing manufacturers (more about popular this label's history in the VFG Label Resource: vintagefashionguild.org/label-resource/new-york-creation/). The hat fits at on the back of the head, calot-style, and a sequin-covered scalloped crown sits at the top of the head. The hat is made of black wool felt with a flexible wire inside the edges; a stiffer structure is inside the top edge. An elastic cord is attached inside for help holding the hat on. Small bows of felt decorate the sides where the long veil is attached. There is a black grosgrain ribbon inside the edge. I believe the sequins are cellulose acetate, and the soft and fine veil is likely rayon.
Condition: Very good. There is a little roughness with some small breaks in the veil at the bottom edge (shown in the last two photos). There is slight variations in the shine of the sequins. I can find nothing else to mention—even the elastic band is in fine shape.
Size: Labeled hat size 22. The hat is about 7.5" x 11" in diameter, measured following the curve across the top. The veil extends about 11.5" beyond the front edge of the hat.
