I love history and this style of brooch has a lot of history to it. The Pennacular can be traced back to Mediaeval times when it was used to secure, cloaks, great kilts, wraps, bodices and coats. It is a clever device of almost a full circle with a rotating pin which swings round to a gap in the circle. The idea is that to gather your material on the pin, pop it through the gap then move it round on the back of the circle to secure the fabric. Most often thought of as a Celtic item for securing ‘The Great Kilt or a ladies shawl or jacket (think Outlander), this one is a beautiful example in solid silver with a Celtic design on the front. It is fully hallmarked for silver (12 grms) with the date and place mark for Glasgow, 1950, so it could have gone through that stone circle!!! This really is a little piece of history, would make a great popular gift and could become a family heirloom. The diameter is 1.5 inches (4 cms)
There is only one, so if you love it, buy it!
