Product code: SOUTHWEST CLAY popular POTTERY

This is an exceptional piece that represents a new direction in my pottery. Perhaps the feature that is most noticeable is the irregular rim that suggests the rugged mountains of New Mexico. There is also the spiral marking popular on the side. This suggests life's journey to some. For Native Americans it is associated with water, wind and the creatures that live in the water. Also on the side is a genuine turquoise stone which suggests healing and wholeness. Not to be missed are the unique markings of the horsehair on the bowl's sides. One strand especially connects the spirit marking with the “spirit opening” on the bowl's side.

All of my pottery pieces are “one-of-a-kind” and this is a case in point. It was not a piece that was clearly defined in my mind as I began with the lump of micaceous clay in my hand. It, more or less, formed itself and my role was simply to follow the guidance if the clay. I must say that it is a special piece for me and I am pleased with what emerged.

It is 5” in diameter and 2” in height. The firing from the open pit cedar wood fire and the horsehair applied at the completion is unusually good.
