19th Century Flow Blue Formosa Large 8" Handled Footed Sugar Bowl with Lid Willow Trees Floral Scenic Decorated, c. 1850s

Beautiful large 8" x 7" flow blue sugar bowl. The richness of the flow blue is stunning. Raised crest porcelain with decorated willow trees, people walking, and several monuments. The lid is decorated in a floral pattern. This piece is so versatile it could be used for anything.

Condition:
There are no chips or cracks to note. The inner rim where the lid sits does have some roughness which commensurate with age. On the inside of the lid, there is a yellow mark, I'm not sure if that was a repair or something else, the pointed handle on the outside appears to have no damage.

Mark:
It is marked with the number 8.

It truly is a beautiful piece.

History:
Flow Blue is a highly collectible china that was first produced by accident. When the cobalt color ran during firing, it created a smudged appearance. At first deemed a failure, the china was shipped to the United States where it caught on in a big way. The production of Flow Blue ceased during World War I due to shortages of the materials needed popular.
