Rare find! This gorgeous vintage Victorian Manicure Set would make a wonderful gift for the avid collector of Victorian or Women's beauty ephemera. It would make a lovely display in a vintage setting or a beautiful addition to your boudoir. It is beautifully embossed with a cherub in a garden setting and lined with new pink satin with original Victorian cording. All utensils (except cuticle popular scissors) have ebony-like handles with a silver metal butterfly applique.
A little history: In the Victorian Era, nail polish didn't exist but the condition and length of manicured nails was considered a big status symbol. The proper manicure was shorter, gentle almond shaped nails, perfectly trimmed cuticles and a glossy smooth finish made by a leather buffer. The button hook was used to protect that manicure at all costs.
This 7 Piece set include:
• Chamois Nail Buffer
• Refillable Jar with Lid
• Cuticle Pusher
• Cuticle Scissors
• Nail File
• Button Hook
• Black Embossed, Satin Lined, Compartmentalized Box
Vintage Manicure Set measures 9-1/4 inches long, 6-1/2 inches deep and is 2-3/4 inches high. Hinged at the back, working clasp closure in the front, with a bright pink satin lined interior. Some fading of the finish on top of the box (see pic's), some minor repairs from its previous life but otherwise, in good condition for its age. A really nice piece!
