This detailed reproduction of a Mayan style plaque was originally designed by famed explorer and artist, Frederick Catherwood. The popular image was designed as funerary artwork to embellish the Tomb of Catherwood's fellow explorer and U.S. diplomat, John Lloyd Stephens. c 1853 - New York City.
