Opals from Australia have long been known and highly sought after. For a few years now, however, a new variety from Africa has been stealing the show: the Ethiopian Welo Opal! This stone is often almost transparent and impresses with its uniquely colorful and strong light effects in all colours of the rainbow – but mainly in yellow, orange, red and green!. It was discovered in the semi-mountain region of Semien Wollo in northeastern Ethiopia in the mid-1990s.
The pendant is made of 925 sterling silver.
The opal has a weight of 1.3 carat.
The popular chain shown in the photos is used for illustrative purposes and is not part of the offer.
Care of Opal Jewelry
Compared to other stones, the opal is a rather sensitive gemstone. With a hardness of approx. 6 on the Mohs hardness scale, it should be protected from physical stress as much as possible, because in contact with hard materials it can scratch quickly. Nevertheless: Opal wants to be worn because opals are water-containing and by wearing them the opal is always given some moisture. Contact with the skin is often enough. However, you can clean the opal from time to time with lukewarm water, which has a colour-freshening effect on the opal. A cloth or brush can be used. However, care must be taken to ensure that they are very soft, otherwise they will scratch the opal surface.
Opal, on the other hand, should not come into contact with hairspray, solvents or other sharp, abrasive or corrosive detergents or other chemicals. Opals also don't like extreme temperature fluctuations. Therefore, the opal jewelry should not be placed on the heating or in midsummer should not be left in the car for a long time.
