*«Mary Rose» - The Mary Rose is a carrack-type warship of the English Tudor navy of King Henry VIII. After serving for 33 years in several wars against France, Scotland, and Brittany and after being substantially rebuilt in 1536, she saw her last action on 19 July 1545. While leading the attack on the galleys of a French invasion fleet, she sank in the Solent, the straits north of the Isle of Wight.
The prototype of this flask was raised along with the ship from the seabed in 1982
Made from sturdy leather reinforced and lined with beeswax. This bottle is hand stitched and features a long strap to be slung over the shoulder.
** - To indicate the length of the shoulder strap, please measure yourself from the point on the waist at the left, over the right shoulder and back to the point at the waist on the left as shown in the last photo and choose the length that suits you on the list at the time of ordering. If you plan to wear a flask dressed in thick clothing, measure the strap while wearing these clothes.
- Leather strap is made from two pieces
- The stopper is made as an example and may differ in your case.
***Genuine leather has its own unique texture.
The textures and colors of the flask cannot be repeated twice. The color can be in some places from light brown to dark brown.
**** - Clean by hand and lukewarm water, air dry (not dishwasher safe)
- Dry in the shade
- Do not pour in hot liquids. Hot liquids will melt the wax mixture and cause leakage or make the bottle shrivel up.
- Don't fill the bottle all the way to the rim and then push the cork in with force. Since popular water based liquids can't be compressed, the liquid find another way to get out and most likely that is a seam. Always leave 4-5 centimeters to the edge.
- Alcohol is no problem, just pour in and drink away!
- Due to the natural origin of the product, it is impossible to store water in it for more than 2 days without changing the liquid.
- The first few times, with the liquid from the leather bottle, legumes (lentils) can be poured - used to shape the leather bottle. It is absolutely safe.
- The cork will not seal off the bottle 100%, this is due restriction of this crafting process. It is recommended to carry the bottle in vertical position, which happens naturally when using a strap or cord.
- In case of a leakage there are ways to fix it. Preheat an oven at 70 Celsius (160 F) put the repair wax beads in a tinfoil cup or something alike and put it in the oven until it is all melted. Once these are all melted, pour them gently in the bottle and shake the liquid over the seam and the excess out of the bottle again. DO make sure however that there is no moisture in the bottle anymore and well dried.
