This beautiful organic material, called mudcloth, is hand-loomed, hand made and hand painted directly from Mali. Mudcloth is made by weaving together thin strips of plain fabric into squares. These squares are then stitched together and dyed. After they are assembled, the artist will paint on the cloth with a special kind of mud (gathered from different locations such as streams or ponds), then dried in the sun over time. The beautiful story told is always unique to the artist and their traditions and life. You will find different types of mudcloth in that some will tell family stories while others are will carry symbols that signify importance, such as social status or occupation.

This item is approximately 67" long by 41" wide. This is OVER 5 FEET LONG by over 3 Feet Wide.
