Rustic French Antique Hand Carved Wooden Pot / Primitive Pyrenean Wooden Artefact / Early 20th / Wonderful Old Pot for Display Home Decor


This charming, rustic, hand made very large pot was discovered in an old farmhouse in the Pyrenees, south west France. It could have been for crushing herbs or grain - if so then the pestle is missing. However, this is such a great thing, which oozes age and primitive charm. Hand carved, it weighs 3.8kg - over 8lbs!!

This would make a fantastic plant pot, or, like in the photo, for utensils in a farmhouse kitchen (the spoons etc are listed separately). Its uses are many. Would also make a lovely gift for a carpenter, or someone who enjoys working with wood.

In lovely age related condition, the inside has gained a lovely smooth look over the decades (which makes me think that it was indeed used for crushing grain etc, and the pestle will have created a smooth surface). It has been lightly waxed, to enhance the age of the wood but not interfere with its naturally aged look.

A totally unique, one of a kind piece of Pyrenean history.

I scour brocantes, vide greniers, auctions, and all sorts of nooks and crannies to find wonderful old French treasures and it is a passion that grows greater by the day. Where I can I give the story behind each item as they too have had a life and are now looking for their own new story ... So I am happy that these long lost items are going to new homes.

I describe my items to the best of my ability but please remember these are antique or vintage items and not every single flaw may be listed, It is part of the charm of bygone times and have had a previous life and could tell many stories.

Please note my shipping costs are just that - I use recycled boxes where possible but bubble wrap, fuel and time are not included in the shipping to keep costs down for you, the customer. If you wish to purchase more than one item please ask me for the combined shipping cost. I am happy to reserve items until I've worked out the final cost. in any event, I do refund shipping differences.

I aim to post within 24 hours if I can. I use La Poste for small packets up to 2kg, and economy (but reliable) courier Mondial Relay or Happy Post for bulkier/heavier items. Everything is tracked for peace of mind.

Mondial Relay is used for domestic shipping for most items.
