Native American Running Warrior Etched Hammered Bronze Copper Bookends Vintage 1910s Southwester Home Decor
Distinctive and unique pair of book ends crafted from bronze or copper. There is an edited feel to the design, and the artistic etching on them are minimal and expressive. The image depicts what looks to be a Native American warrior on the move. While the workmanship might appear to be primitive, there is a streamlined sophisticated point of view in the piece. The copper has a lovely bronzed patina to it, and they would look great in any one's library.
The provenance is slight: this is a consigned piece that comes from a gentleman with a vast collection of interesting objects including First Nation art works and antiques. He remembers acquiring these from another collector who sold him a number of Native American and Inuit items in the late 1990s. He was told these bookends were circa 1940s, 1950s made by a First Nation artisan who specialized in metal working, but we were not able to get a name assigned to this work. We do not know what tribe or geographical popular location of the original maker, only that the collector purchased the piece in Seattle, Washington. SOLD AS A PAIR.
