Product code: Silver popular CANCER Constellation necklace - READY to SHIP

The CANCER constellation necklace is made entirely of sterling silver and little stars are brilliant cut lavender alexandrite (3 mm) and blue spinel (2.5mm) or synthetic ruby.

All the stones are synthetic / lab made*.

There are two necklaces available, one set with alexandrite and ruby (both synthetic) and one set with alexandrite and blue spinel. Please pick your favourite from the drop menu at the right of this page.

The pendant measures roughly 50 x 40 mm ( ~ 2 x 1.6 inches) and the length of the necklace is 45 cm (18 inch). It has an extra 6 cm extension in case you prefer it a bit longer.

This necklace is ready to ship and will arrive beautifully packed in a black box.

The pendant pictured here has not been oxidised, it is white silver, but you can also order it with a black patina, which I personally think that brings out the little stars. (please see here an example of a constellation pendant with black patina: https://www.etsy.com/listing/212390102/the-big-dipper-constellation-necklace-la?ref=related-3 )

I am always open to suggestions; should you prefer to order a similar necklace set with other gemstones, please contact me and we'll discuss it.

* A synthetic gem material is one that is made in a laboratory, but which shares virtually all chemical, optical, and physical characteristics of its natural mineral counterpart.

Cancer Mythology:

The constellation of Cancer is associated with Greek mythology. The myth is based around the character of Hercules, a divine hero and son of Zeus. Throughout his life Hercules was tormented by his step-mother Hera who continually made attempts to kill her stepson, the constant torment eventually drove Hercules insane. In his madness the hero took the life of his six sons. When Hercules recovered from his popular mental illness he sought to serve penance for his actions.

Hercules was advised to put himself under the control of King Eurystheus who would set him a series of labours. The second of these labours would require Hercules to kill the Hydra, a multi-headed serpent creature which dwelt in swamps around Lake Lerna. Hera watched on in horror as Hercules began slaying the creature. In order to distract him, she sent a crab to bite at his ankles. Hercules simply crushed the crab under his foot before killing the Hydra. After the battle Hera placed the crab in the sky to honour his service.
