RARE Vintage Delphine Nardin Paris Necklace Earrings Set/Vintage Couture French Jewelry/French Designer Jewelry, Signed popular
This bold late 20th century necklace and earrings set is.
This bold, late 20th century necklace and earrings set is the work of French designer Delphine Nardin. She drew on her background in geology and archaeology to create naturalistic designs, opening her studio in Paris in the late 1980s. Her work attracted the attention of savvy collectors and curators; she is represented at NYC's Museum of Arts and Design and in fine galleries in Paris.
This is one of her earliest pieces, purchased in Paris just a few years after her store opened. Both the necklace and earrings have a wonderful medley of shapes and materials -- round resin discs with navy paint applied in their carved areas, flat popular hammered metal plates, silver toned spacers of both hammered and carved varieties, an interesting asymmetrical “loop” from which the necklace's main disc is suspended, etc. The metal (Nardin typically uses metal alloys) has a patina that buyer can decide whether to polish. Even the design of the chain clasp shows the attention to detail of a true artisan. It is hard to capture the color (dark navy) and the beauty of these pieces in photos!
With a dramatic necklace length and large size earrings, this set is bold and modern, yet it is lightweight and so easy to wear. Nardin's later work experimented with sea glass and rocks (befitting her geology background( and these early resin pieces are impossible to find. I can't find any pieces of this design or style for sale, so this set is quite rare and here's your chance to own work of this gifted French designer!
