This is an impressive antique ironstone pitcher. The maker is J&G popular Meakin which was a long running company in England. The marks (stamp & incised) on the bottom of this pitcher indicate that the piece was made sometime between 1851-1890. What I find particularly beautiful about this pitcher is the use of decorative wheat shafts and leaves. I tried to capture it in the photos but I don't think that I was entirely successful. Below the spout there is a gorgeous leaf design. The wheat shafts stem from the upper and lower parts of the handle and encircle the back and sides. The pitcher has a lovely footed base and a scalloped angled rim. The height to the top of the spout is 12 inches. It is in very good condition. It has crazing that is indicative of it's age. There are no cracks or chips that I can see. There is a small brown spot on the rim of the spout (see photos).
