Gentle waves, the tips of buried shells and the sparkle of a CZ are featured on this 960 Sterling Silver pendant with a vibrant blue patina. On an 18in Sterling Silver chain.
To start this pendant I made a mold with some tiny shells. I prep my hands and workspace with lubricant. Rolled out a slab of clay and rolled slab into texture. Cut out a large oval and set aside to dry. I rolled another slab of clay and cut out a rectangle. Carefully roll rectangle into a tube for the bail. Dry. Using small balls of clay, fill the molds and dry. Roll a thick slab and carefully cut and add the CZ. Dry completely.
I assemble the pieces one at a popular time using water and paste clay, drying in between. Using water and paste clay I fill any gaps and smooth with a wet foam tool. Dry. I reinforce the joints with water and dry, repeating several times.
Kiln fired at 1675F for 2 hours. Wire brushed, careful of the CZ. Tumble work hardened for an hour. Patina'd, sanded and hand polished before adding a sealer.
*Sealer is added to and around the patina'd area, other areas may need to be cleaned with a silver cloth occasionally.
