Kiev-10 was produced at the Kiev Arsenal from 1965 to 1974.

This unit is one of the first, and possibly the first in the world, camera with automatic exposure control with shutter priority.

Konika In the same year 1965, Konika Auto-Reflex was also released.

In the West, it is considered the first DSLR with automatic exposure.

The formal discoverer is no longer recognizable, but this is not necessary - another month's lag is not material.
It is important that system mirrors with automatic exposure control appeared in the USSR strictly simultaneously with world trends. Even Kiev, was inferior to Konik in a number of indicators.

Automatic aperture control required the creation of a new type of lens mount. After all, it was required to transfer the aperture value from the carcass to the lens. There is no aperture ring on the lens itself.

Arsenals, going among the world leaders, did not have ready-made experience at hand that could be copied and therefore created their own mount for their DSLRs from scratch.

It is called Bayonet Kiev automatic machine.

This type of bayonet was used on a very small range of cameras - only on Kiev-10 and Kiev-15. The mount is not compatible with any of the other mount types.

Adapters from Kiev-machine optics to modern devices are not manufactured at the factory.

But in the days of the USSR, there was an adapter from the M39 optics to the Kiev-10, -15 cameras. Another respect to Arsenal.

Of course, the automatic diaphragm did not work with such an adapter.

The standard lens of Kiev-10 is Helios-65 Automatic 2/50 or Helios-81 Automatic 2/53.

Optics for Kiev automatic bayonet mount has a jumping aperture.

Lens mount - Kiev automatic bayonet mount. The working distance is 44 mm.

The shutter - of an unprecedented design until then - is metal, lamellar with a fan-shaped stroke. Beats shutter speeds: 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/15, 1/30, 1/60, 1/125, 1/250, 1/500, 1/1000, V.

The color of the lamellas - red copper - emphasizes the outlandishness of the structure.

Flash sync at all shutter speeds 1/60 and slower.

Well, that set of excerpts is valid. It is in no way inferior to Zenith-4. Synchronization options are more modest, but all the same, 6 shutter speeds with synchronization, and even the maximum is not 1/30, but 1/60 - that's great!
Kiev-10 is equipped with a removable flash bracket. Synchronization is only wired.

There is no self-timer.

Viewfinder image field size - 22 × 34 mm, or 86.5% of the frame area. Fine.

Focusing screen type - frosted glass and micro-raster.

The weight of my copy without the lens is 860 grams.

Before moving on to the controls, let's take a second look at the overall design.

Grace in Kiev-10 is complete zero. That's for sure.

But, nevertheless, the camera definitely has its own style. It is carefully thought out and composed with great love.

Despite popular its size, heavy weight and exceptional angularity, the Kiev-10 lies well in the hands.

I would call the look of this camera retro-futuristic. At one time, it was, of course, a serious design concept. Now all these forms, of course, are outdated, but they look like a Star Wars movie. It is naive, but romantic and in spite of everything - interesting. Because it's a classic.

In the same 1965, the first book by Kir Bulychev about Alice was created. If in any film based on these books the heroine according to the script would need a camera of the distant future in her hands, it could definitely be Kiev-10. Hefty, angular, and very unusual.

The weight of my copy without the lens is 914 grams.
