NEW - It has been in the original shipping carton since 1986. To avoid cracking the spine It took two of us to get photo #4. I returned it promptly to the plastic and the shipping box it was stored in. It was never in shrink wrap which probably preserved the corners. Pristine. Even the Shipping Carton is perfect.

Laura Gilpin? American born in 1891 she became a one of a kind Photographer Documenting the Navajos and their Pueblo way of life. Known for her "perfectionism" she was somewhat formal but invoking of emotion. She lived on what commercial (magazine and research) assignments paid. The impact of her photos found success late in her life. Gilpin died in Santa Fe in 1979

Ms. Sandweiss writes of Gilpin's personal circumstances and how she came to so deeply identify with the Native Americans she recorded for us all...with respect, empathy and an understanding of their "Enduring Grace".

Various Book sites have this. Most do not give a full description of this highly regarded monograph. Martha A. Sandweiss was the Curator at the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, Texas when this exhibit was mounted. Sandweiss later taught at Amherst College in Massachusetts.
