Vintage French black velvet skirt popular traditional Breton

Antique French black skirt. Originally part of traditional Breton costume but could still be worn today.

Top half of the skirt is made of a black shiny cotton and plain cotton.
Lower half is black velvet. Internal lining is also black cotton.

Traditional construction with lots of tight gathers under the front of the waistband but flat on the back.
Opening at the back. Current closure is with brown laces looped through fixed popular metal loops- that can obviously be changed!
Two openings for pockets on the sides.
There are extra metal hooks pointing down stitched into the interior of the waistband to hold onto other parts of the costume.

Antique item so some imperfections should be expected.
Metalware is tarnished. The bottom of the back opening has a patched repair.

Width across the top when closed: 40.5 cm / 15.9"
Total length: 75 cm / 29.5"
