This is a wonderfully large original French Gilt wood lamp dating to the 1920s.
It is made up of turned wood pieces, to which a layer of red bole has been applied. This is then covered in gilding.
The lamp is constructed of popular a turned stem, on a large cylindrical base, and has 3 tripod wooden legs.
The gilding is a really lovely gold colour.
There are some patches where the red bole is showing, but these definitely add to the charm of the lamp.
There is an electrical brass lamp holder fitting to the top of the lamp. It would need to be replaced with a fitting that allows the electrical cable to come out of the side of the fitting. The cable would then hang down, ready to be plugged in.
Alternatively, the brass lamp holder could be removed, and the lamp could be instead used as a candle stand.
All electrical items have to be correctly fitted to conform with local standards.
The lamp measures a very good 90 cm tall, and the base is approximately 31 cm across it's width.
There is no woodworm or other damage to the wood, and it's in remarkable condition for it's age. There is a loss of gilding, situated between 2 of the 3 legs, as seen in the photo.
There is also a little gilding missing to the top lip of the lamp.
A lovely, very large lamp, that would make a huge statement piece, topped by a large shade. It is a good weight as it is made of solid wood.
I use the French postal system which is the National carrier which is reliable but can be a tad slow. I send packages tracked which can be followed on their website. I will always help with translating where items are, if so required. The French charge on size and weight, and I try and only charge actual postage. I will always try and combine if possible, and give the best price I can.
