Paul Sawyier was one of Kentucky's most renowned artist. Sawyier was born Madison County, Ohio in 1865. (1865-1917). He spent most of his childhood and much of his adult life in Frankfort, Kentucky. His father supported and encouraged his son's artistic talent. In 1889, Sawyier left Kentucky to study under William Merritt Chase at New Yorks Art Student's League, where he cultivated his impressionist style.
