Bush Violet (Browallia Speciosa) by Jos. Meier. Wonderful original botanical chart drawn in pen and ink and finished with gouache and watercolor. It is not a print, but rather an original artwork created circa 1930 for a collection depicting the flowers of the Zurich Botanical Garden. This and the other one-of-a-kind botanicals from the collection were drawn by various students, staff members, and local artists for the purpose of providing a painted "tour" of the flowers and plants of the Botanical Garden. They were drawn in the Art Deco or New Objectivity style and were likely influenced by the flower work of Rudolf Koch. They each depict an overview of the subject plant, as well as a detail of the flower, stamen, fruit, etc., and a cross-section view of the stem or plant structure.
The paper is a very heavy professional grade artist's stock blind-stamped "Monopol" along the top or bottom edge. The artist's name is printed or signed along the bottom edge. This is a one-of-a-kind original artwork, not a print or modern reproduction.
