I am offering this lovely large antique French stoneware pitcher or demijohn sourced from a brocante here in southern France and dating back to the end of the 19th to beginning of the 20th century.
This traditional handmade pot was designed to store olive oil or other oils such as nut oil. These vessels were perfect for keeping olive oil cool and protected from sunshine therefore ensuring the oil does not become rancid.
The stoneware has a wonderful mottled glaze that is now mostly matt with colours varying from cream to grey and then chestnut with darker splodges of brown.
A statement antique to add bags of rustic French charm!
A shapely form, perfectly Wabi Sabi!
