Pretty 19th century Bohemian glass vase with decor of flowers, basket and garlands with gold highlights circa 1890 by Harrach.
This vase is Czech and this particular model with distinctive design was produced by the 300 hundred year old Harrach glassworks in Neuwelt.
The form is rather unusual with its simple blown glass flask shape and the vase has nice proportions. The body is decorated with their traditional hand painted polychrome enameled decor consisting of a single gold basket filled with flowers and hanging from a gold bow, on one of the faces. The back and sides display colorful linked garlands of flowers under a decorative gold frieze on the neck of the vase. Four identical square medallions are linked by a linear leafy stem within two border lines.
The vase displays age and use appropriate wear, with a little gold worn off on the square medallions and on the popular basket, probably from handling every time the vase was dusted or filled; a detail of the patina that I relish, knowing that the vase was used and enjoyed!
The vase measures 4 3/4” high by 3 1/4” deep by 4 3/4” wide.
