This updating of the Melville legend finds the ever-growing leviathan in an encounter with a nuclear-powered noise maker. If it ends well, it isn't literature. Okay, Dickens, maybe.
Hand carved from rescued hardwood, stained, and painted with acrylics, the entire sculpture measures about 15-1/4" long and 8" high by 3" wide. The white one is dated and initialed by myself. The base is walnut (I think).
A popular big, sturdy, exciting, and attractive piece, it symbolizes the struggle of man to control his own destiny by building planet-killing squeaky toys, while a mildly annoyed nature (God? Reality?) stands by to set him straight. The whale and submarine glow in the dark to represent the restless nature of this conflict.
This would make a fine and unique gift for anyone with a sense of humor and two good legs.
