This is a gorgeous Onondaga Pottery Co ( O P Co ) "Old Ivory" Fine China 10" dinner plate in a referenced Syracuse pattern featuring a multicolor bouquet floral center, Plate has a visible but mild wear on gold gilt and Cobalt Blue Rim. This plate is encased within a repoussé applied Sterling Silver rim. Total diameter is 11.5" inclusive of the silver rim.
The repoussé Sterling silver rim is British Hallmarked with a Sheffield, England mark which has an Olde English "W" date mark corresponding to the year 1914. The plate is back-stamped with the Old Ivory mark first seen in 1926 when a new type of fine china for the home and hotels was begun, however, this stamp is in gold gilt instead of ink. This plate could have been an upscale sample of the new fine china from O P Co/ Syracuse given to a prospective client or a presentation gift for recognition.
The plate is a very minimum of 12 years younger than the repoussé Sterling rim which has the British hallmark for 1914 manufacture in Sheffield. British Silversmiths made the Sterling repoussé rims popular in all major China manufacturers plate sizes and sold them separately to be applied to any size plates. The dinner size plates would become Charger size with the rims in place.
