Product code: 4 Corvette Beads ][ Coordinating Lot Set ][ Rare Authentic Genuine Paint popular Layers Fordite from Corvette Factory Plant in Bowling Green, KY #47

Would you want to own (or give a gift:) of an authentic part of hundreds, or possibly even thousands, of Corvettes?

This listing is for FOUR beads, and all the photos are of the actual beads you will be receiving. They are 6.2 mm diameter with 2.7 mm holes. Each small bead popular is uniquely different from every angle. Since no 2 beads are ever the same, these brads are coordinating. These beads are handmade so there is variation to them. (No laser cutting has been used.)

Every Corvette that has been manufactured, since 1981, has been built in the factory near Bowling Green, Kentucky. As the Corvettes were manufactured, and as they passed through the painting process, there was over-spray and drips that built up on the assembly line rails. There were approximately 145 Corvettes per day that went through the painting process. It takes approximately 1,000 layers of paint to equal 1 inch of buildup. That's 125 layers of paint for only 1/8"! Periodically, about every 4 to 6 months, as part of the maintenance of the factory assembly line rails, the paint was chiseled off in chunks.

These remnants of genuine Corvette paint have been amazingly handcrafted by an elderly gentleman into extremely rare items. They are polished smooth and you cannot feel the paint layers.

The paint colors in my listings could go back as far as 1981, when production shifted to the brand new high-tech facility manufacturing plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The fully up-to-date paint shop was a big plus for the new factory. The St Louis plant had used lacquer exclusively, but the Bowling Green plant used more automatic means to apply more durable enamels as well as the new clear coat finishes. Also, the new Bowling Green factory relied on computer-managed robots for painting.

You can carefully examine each unique item and see the distinctive colors of the Corvettes, that were manufactured from that remnant of paint. If you mouse over to zoom on the pictures, you can see the actual layers of paint. If you are a Corvette colors expert, you can also determine what year the paint is from, by the colors. The color variations also occurred depending on the number of cars made in a row before changing to the next color. For example, in 2003 for the 50th Anniversary, there were over 11,000 "Anniversary Red" Corvettes manufactured, so the paint remnants have more layers of red than other years.

In 2005 the factory changed the paint formula, eliminating the paint over-spray and buildup, which makes the past paint remnants ever more rare. (These layers of paint from other factories have been called Fordite and Detroit Agate and Motor City Agate.)

This listing is for ONE bead and all the items shown in the photos are not included. They are shown to give you some ideas of how your bead can be worn. This bead can be added on a chain and worn as a pendant. The end of the chain needs to be smaller than the bead hole.

With your purchase you will receive a gift box and an "Authentic Corvette" card with the history behind the unique collectible.

I guarantee that this is 100% authentic, genuine Corvette paint from the Corvette Factory in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
