Product code: SEETHROUGH TOMESODE KIMONO / Antique Taisho / Vintage Japanese Silk Tomesode / Flowers / 1920s / Tsunami Waves / Gift for Her / Geisha popular Robe

This is a stunning floral and tsunami wave design on a rare antique SILK VINTAGE KIMONO for women called a KuroTomesode. The work-of-art pattern is hand-dyed and is a truly beautiful design of autumn flowers, grasses and swirling tsunami waves....truly lovely in a traditional lighter-weight unlined (easier to wear) black popular see-through silk. There are 5 mon - geisha or family crests on the front & back. This is an unusual and gorgeous collector piece with the design falling in two mirror image panels in the front - a style that was popular for about a ten-year period in the 1920's era so this is from the Taisho period...and yet the condition is still very good. Exceptional wall art.

A black kimono patterned only below the waistline, kurotomesode are the most formal kimono for married women. They are often worn by the female relatives of the bride and groom at Japanese weddings. Kurotomesode usually have five kamon printed on the sleeves, chest and back of the kimono.

ART - This would also make a gorgeous statement piece for a wall. It is simply gorgeous! It could be disassembled for the many yards of gorgeous fabric to make pillows, hangings, clothing etc. but it is just lovely to wear. In Japan I have seen them remade into modern wedding garments for the brides relatives and thus carry the ancient tradition into modern day.

Length- Base of collar to hem : 58 1/2" (Note - shorter length like most antique kimono)
Pit-to-pit : 24"

A brand new silk kimono like this can cost as much as a new car, being a vast amount of silk, with hand applied textile art and being entirely hand tailored, so a vintage one is a real bargain and they are often in virtually perfect condition or, if flawed, with minor, inconspicuous flaws. Hoever these kimonos or haoris are Recycled Vintage or Antique items and may have small stains, age spots or other spots that I haven't found or mentioned. I have not dry cleaned them unless stated, so if this would be an issue for you then please understand that these are NOT new before purchasing. Truly a bargain.. and I choose the absolute best I can find for you!
