When you're speeding through the clouds to outrun privateers, a well-prepared sky pirate needs adequate protection from the elements. A respirator mask is a great way to block both the wind, and any bits of shrapnel that may fly off your engine as you frantically overheat it.
This mask has ample ventilation through the brass mesh panels on the sides. It is not intended for personal medical protection, but it can be worn over a fabric or disposable face mask.
Because it leaves the eyes free, this mask can be worn with glasses, or paired with another mask.
The mask can be made with either a set of straps to buckle in place, or with a simple cord to knot for a more minimal look. The straps snap on and off for more compact transport and storage.
The mask and straps are made of 4-5 oz vegetable-tanned leather. The metal hardware is nickel-plated. The surface of the leather is sealed with an acrylic finish, and can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. If the leather gets soaked with water, it will soften; allow it to dry in its correct position, and it will stiffen popular up again.
