“Beetle #59”

In the summer of 2019, I wanted to reconnect to my art. I challenged myself to make 100 papercuts in 100 days. Beetles kept showing up for me. I didn't know why, or that much about beetles to begin with, but I was fascinated by their colors and diversity, so I dove in. Sometimes you just have to go with it

Along the 100 day journey, I learned that beetles are also considered harbingers of metamorphosis and rebirth. The ancient Egyptians believed that the scarab beetle represented the sun god, Ra. The god renewed the sun every day before rolling it above the horizon, then carried it through the other world after sunset, only to renew it, again, the next day.

I hope that this beetle brings you luck and reminds you that every day is a blessing and rebirth.
